Social Enterprise Nature Unlimited has received funding to run an employability project called ‘Natural Transitions’ for the next three years, aimed at 16-25 year olds.
It will teach woodland management and green woodworking techniques, such as coppicing and rustic furniture making and will develop employability skills such as working in a team, using tools and communication skills. Those taking part will grow their own food and share healthy meals cooked on the fire.
Those who take part will complete an Independent Learning Plan, which can be used as evidence towards Youth Achievement Awards, if appropriate. Certificated training (John Muir Award, Food Hygiene, Outdoor First Aid and Forest School Level 1) will be available to those who make a long-term commitment.
All sessions take place in the outdoors, in all weathers. If you would like to take part, there will be a taster session on Tuesday 26th September, from 9.30am–1pm at Galashiels Policies .
Nature Unlimited runs sessions in woodlands across the Scottish Borders, which range from long-term employability programmes, family and community projects, mental health and well-being sessions to one-off events such as team building days and birthday parties.
