Hawick Out and About Group asked older people in the Burnfoot area what would help them to stay connected.
People said that having somewhere to rest when they are out and about, walking to the shops or going for a bus would really help.
Working in partnership with Burnfoot Community Council, Scottish Borders Council (SBC), Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) and Living Streets Scotland, the group received some funding from SBC Community Grant, Howdens Joinery and the Lottery Community Fund.
Benches, made from recycled plastic, are now being installed in Eildon Road, Fraser Avenue, McLagan Drive, the Playing Field at Burns Road / Cavers View and Burnfoot Road, Hillend Drive and perches in the bus shelter at The Meadows and at the top of Fraser Avenue. SBHA is planning another two benches beside the planters near Burnfoot Hub.
To celebrate the arrival of the benches, Hawick Out and About group is hosting an afternoon tea party on Thursday 10th October at Burnfoot Community Hub from 2pm– .30pm
Everyone is welcome to go along a chat, a cup of tea and some cake! Those who would like to can have a walk around the bench locations.
