Teviot and Liddesdale residents are being encouraged to get involved in a new community project that could see the increasingly popular Trishaw initiative available in Wilton Lodge Park.
Pioneered in Denmark, the Trishaw is currently being wheeled out in different towns and cities throughout Scotland with support from Cycling Without Age Scotland.
They are an ideal way for people with mobility problems to get outdoors and socialise and can be accessed from wheelchairs, walking frames and hoists. The vehicle is motorised to enable it to get up slopes and has a hood for shelter.
Trishaws were introduced to Tweeddale earlier in the year and are already proving popular with older people in Peebles who have been enjoying trips alongside the River Tweed.
The Health and Social Care Partnership’s Community Capacity Building team is now working with the Council’s Outdoor Education team to bring the Trishaw experience to Hawick and is keen to hear from anyone who would like to get involved, either by helping to set up the Cycling Without Age Hawick Group or even by becoming a Trishaw Pilot.
